We have extensive experience translating the documents required to open accounts in Bangladesh.
Over the years, we have received questions like the following from many customers:
- I am not sure which documents need to be translated.
- Should I submit a driver's license or a My Number Card?
- Is a passport translation required?
- Can I use the English bank statement issued by my bank?
- And so on (etc.).
The exact answer depends on each financial institution, so final confirmation should always be made directly with them. That said, based on our past experience, the following documents are typically required.
Main Documents That Need Translation
- Driver's license or My Number Card
- A utility bill (used as proof of address)
- Bank transaction statement
Passport Translation Is Not Needed
Because passports already contain information in English, translation is normally not required.
However, some institutions may still request it, so please confirm in advance with the bank or securities firm.
Important Note on Transaction Statements
For transaction statements in particular, some banks can issue an English version. However, Bangladeshi securities firms often require a translation certificate to be attached, so the most reliable approach is to translate the Japanese transaction statement into English and attach a translation certificate.
(* If anyone has successfully submitted an English statement issued directly by a bank, we would love to hear about your experience!)
